On a day of unprecedented League action CIYMS as good as retained their Premier League crown with an early morning 5 run win over nearest challengers North Down.

They managed to defend what seemed an inadequate 113/5 with Jacob Mulder bowling a nerveless final over that saw the home side fail to score the nine needed for victory.

In it he conceded only 3 singles, bowled Gavin McKenna, ran out Stuart Nelson and finished with a ‘dot’.

After that morning result it would have taken the Comber men to win their remaining fixtures and in doing so to also dramatically increase their Nett Run Rate, an unlikely scenario.

Confirmation of the title was available later in the day to CIYMS in the shape of a win at Shaw’s Bridge against Instonians who had ensured survival with a morning win at Muckamore.

There may have been a few flickers of doubt that it would all be done and dusted today when Instonians posted 192/4 thanks to a magnificent century from Shane Getkate who posted 108* off only 47 balls.

However a John Matchett blitz (72 off 45) set the tone and with Jacob Mulder (20 off 12) setting the platform enter Jason vd Merwe to plunder 40 off 19 and take the contest down to the wire.

In semi-darkness it was Robert McKinley who had the task of preventing CI score the eight runs for victory and he did just that!

Three singles shared by Ryan Hunter and Trevor Britton was followed by 4 leg byes that tied the scores and gave CI the title but with Britton caught off the fifth ball and Ryan Hunter being run out going for the winning run off the last it was a case of both sides celebrating - Instonians an unlikely 2 points and CIYMS the Premier League Title.
