Lisburn lost their final match of the season to CIYMS on Friday night at Belmont. The home side made light of their missing regulars with a 9 wicket win in the 14th over.
It may have been a CIYMS side that was missing regulars Pienaar, Adair, Coulter, Cameron-Dow, Mulder and Hunter but having restricted Lisburn to 101/6 in their 20 overs the home side powered home with only Matchett, Dougherty and a brief appearance from Jason vd Merwe required, sending them clear at the top of the table at the start of a frenetic weekend of action.
Ted Britton took four wickets for 10 runs for CI and captain Nigel Jones the other two for 20 as none of the Lisburn side, themselves shorn of the Strydoms and last weekend's signing Darren Stevens, could make a significant contribution, young Michael Glass the best with 21* late on.
John Matchett played exactly like Man of the Match in the All-Ireland T20 Final he was and with Chris Dougherty (48) matching him blow for blow there was only going to be one winner tonight.
Matchett himself finished 51* as he hurried the home side clear at the top of the table.
CI welcome back their Ireland 'training camp' players; Adair, Mulder and Cameron-Dow for Saturday and Sunday's games - they return to 'camp' in Dublin for sessions on Monday and Tuesday and won't they be needed for the 'Top Two' clash at The Green on Sunday morning.
Lisburn have completed their 14 match programme with 12 points and must now wait as Muckamore and Instonians play multiple matches on Saturday and Sunday, and hope that on Sunday night their Premier stays is still intact, for another week anyway.
