Ireland's Academy side were given a lesson in multi-day batting by Gloucester Seconds as they replied to Ireland's 289 reaching 163/1 in a shortened day's play.
No play was possible before lunch on day two of this friendly due to a wet ground but the game moved forward quickly when it restarted, Ireland adding 38 to their overnight total and Graeme Hume moving on to a useful 47.
Finally bowled out for 289 was a creditable recovery, both from a disastrous start to the innings and also from 174/8, the final two wickets adding 115.
Yesterday's star bowler Matt Taylor didn't bowl today and it was Jack Worgan who picked up the final two wickets post-lunch, Luke Charlesworth the other Gloucestershire bowler who also finished with two to his name.
The game is a twelve-a-side game with 11 batting, and it was the non-batting Matthew Foster who opened the Irish attack and got the early wicket of James Bracey caught behind by Neil Rock.
That was to be Ireland's only success in the day's play as South African Gareth Roderick amassed 81 and England Under 19 left-hander Ben Charlesworth 62 in a partnership so far worth 135 when bad light brought an early end to the day's play.
Gloucester will doubtless want to press on at the start of Day 3 aiming to pass Ireland's total around lunchtime.
That would give them the opportunity to see some more of their batting line up in action with the plan to make Ireland bat on Day 4 to save the game.
That would be a plan - that the Irish bowlers can thwart it first thing tomorrow by taking wickets will be the hope of the visiting camp.
Today however was a case of watch and learn as the home team batters showed off their batting skills.
