Ireland's Academy side showed resilience on Day 1 of their 4-day friendly with Gloucestershire 2nd XI, recovering from a precarious 27/4 to finish the day on 251/8.

Asked to bat first the Wolves succumbed to the left-arm pace of Matt Taylor who knocked over four Irish hopefuls in his first four overs.
He bowled Marc Ellison for 5, Jack Tector for 4 and Ross Allen for 0, then had Alistair Frost caught for 2 to have at that stage figures of 4-9!

Conor McLoughlin-Gavin held firm and with Nathan McGuire (34) steadied the Irish innings until McLoughlin-Gavin became Taylor's 5th victim having scored 51 off 96 deliveries including 5 boundaries.

The good work was carried on by Neil Rock whose 57 (107 balls) included 6x4, 1x6.
His wicket was the last success of the day for the home side with Graeme Hume (35*) and Mitchell Thompson (33*) seeing off the new-ball in an unbroken ninth wicket partnership of 77.
