Woodvale going up in style
After a ten year absence Woodvale claimed their place in the Premier League for the 2020 season with a comprehensive 150 run win over Cregagh, their only remaining rivals for the Section One crown.
Woodvale, batting first posted a challenging total of 242 with opener Wayne Horwood (78) and Michael Irwin (25) adding 68 for the fist wicket. The loss of Irwin and Boyce quickly after brought Farhan Saeed to join Horwood and together they added 61 before Stephen Bunting (54) piled on the agony for the visitors as the home side scored 117 off the final 15 overs.
The Cregagh reply was over before it started as a maiden from Bunting was followed by a wicket maiden from Saeed and then another from Bunting and after 8 overs Cregagh were reeling at 11 for 5!
The only threat to a Woodvale win at that point was the weather and with clouds gathering on the hilltops the home side turned to the spin of Marty McKeown and the little cutters of Timmy Browne.
With the twenty over cut off safely past and with Browne and McKeown both claiming a couple of wickets it was fitting left to Stephen Bunting to return and claim the final wicket, that of Adam McCormick whose 36 was the only resistance that Cregagh could offer on a day when Woodvale could finally celebrate the title win that they rightfully earned this season.
