LEINSTER Lightning claimed the inter-provincial Championship for a fifth time yesterday after the final day of the North West Warriors-Northern Knights game at Bready went the same way as the first two and for the only the second time in seven years a game was abandoned without a ball bowled.

It was a fitting finale to a rain-ruined red-ball series with only three full days not weather interrupted out of 18 and yesterday was the seventh complete wash-out.

Lightning came out on top in only three of their four games, but the three points margin over Warriors at Bready in June proved decisive with no more than one point separating the teams in any of the other four completed games, which, of course, were all drawn.

Lightning have now won 17 of the 21 trophies on offer since the interpro series was relaunched back in 2013.
