Romania have set a new record for the biggest ever men's T20I win after they crushed Turkey by 173 runs today at the Moara Vlăsiei cricket ground.

The home side were put in by their opponents, and an excellent knock of 105 from 40 balls by Sivakumar Periyalwar led them to a total of 226-6 from their 20 overs. Only two of Turkey's batsmen reached double figures as they were bowled out for just 53. The 173 run margin beats by 1 run the previous record held by Sri Lanka since the 2007 World Twenty20 when they beat Kenya by 172 runs.

Both sides were playing their second game of the day in the Continental Cup tournament. In the first game, Romania beat Austria by 31 runs, with cult hero Pavel Florin taking 2 wickets for just three runs on T20I debut.

Turkey also struggled in the second game of the day when they were bowled out for 28 by Luxembourg, Ankush Nanda taking five wickets for six runs in the best ever bowling figures on men's T20I debut. Turkey's total was the lowest in men's T20Is. Luxembourg knocked off the required runs in just 3.1 overs to win by 9 wickets.

The tournament continues tomorrow with Czech Republic joining the fray for their first T20I matches, playing Austria and Turkey. Romania will play Luxembourg in the day's other match.
