On a wonderful sunny afternoon at Moylena in front of a big crowd, Instonians Under 11’s retained their Premier League title with a hard fought win against Muckamore.
Batting first Instonians lost six wickets in the first seven overs mainly due to the excellent bowling off Luka Bates, who took five of wickets for 19 runs, leaving Instonians at 56 for six wickets.
The Shaws Bridge team fought their way to 115 mainly due to an excellent 35 not out from Charlie O’Connor, helped by A Boyd (21) and F Holloway (16).
For Muckamore J Irwin took 2 wickets for 20 in his 4 overs.
The top scorers for Muckamore in their reply were the brothers Marco and Luka Bates who scored 20 and 17 respectively.
They were both clean bowled by Ben Walsh who ended up with 2 wickets for 9 runs from his 4 overs. L Crothers had 2 wickets for 7 runs and J Nelson and R Ingram each got a wicket for Instonians.
Muckamore scored 74 in reply with Instonians ending up winning by 41 runs in a very keenly contested match. The Shield was presented to James Nelson, Instonians captain, by David Skelton, chair of Youth Cricket assisted by the league secretary Seymour Murphy.
David Skelton thanked Muckamore for their excellent hosting of the final.
