St Johnston claimed the Q2 Cup after an emphatic 156-run win against Strabane at The Rectory.

The Saints were always in control after scoring 201 for 8 in their first innings, with Siddarth Thanga top scoring with 59, Stewart Lapsley hitting 44, and Manov Bhavshar a breezy 37.

Former Irish international Mark Gillespie led the Strabane reply with a valiant 53, but three wickets from Rammohan Goud-Sama and two apiece from Josh Cole, Khayat Bhavshar and Thanga ensured the Donegal side had a 56 run lead.

St Johnston then put the game out of Strabane's reach as openers Deepak Reddy and Josh Cole shared an opening stand of 109.

Reddy struck 7 fours and 4 sixes as he top scored with 72 from just 61 balls, while Cole hit 41.

Man of the Match Scott MacBeth then clubbed 5 sixes and 4 fours as he made 63 from 51 balls to power Saints to 243 for 6.

Facing a daunting 300 target, Strabane started positively, but wickets fell regularly and despite a half century from John Gillespie they were dimissed for 143 - Siddarth Thanga with four wickets and Scott MacBeth three.

All credit to both sides, the umpires and the Glendermott groundstaff for getting the match completed in difficult circumstances.
