It is of course the business end of the season for trophies, and this year more than most with the cup competitions all taking place in August.

This weekend sees the Qualifying One and Two competitions down for decision, with Bready taking on Eglinton in the Q1 decider at Beechgrove tomorrow and Saturday, while Strabane face St Johnston in the Q2 decider at Glendermott.

Three wickets apiece from Lee Kelly and Marc Fleming coupled with an unbeaten half century by Robert Spence saw Bready coast to an eight wicket win against Bonds Glen, followed by a hard-fough 18-run win over holders Donemana in the semi-final.

Former Irish international Mark Olphert hit seven sixes in a superb 74, while the bowling unit did well to defend 175 with Dean McCloskey and Cameron Knight picking up three wickets apiece. Play at Beechgrove gets under way at 12 o’clock.

Strabane seconds reached the final with an excellent 37-run victory against Ballyspallen at the weekend, with another ex-Irish international to the fore. Mark Gillespie rolled back the years with an excellent 75 not out as the Red Caps posted 175 for 3 in 28 overs.

It proved enough as TJ Boyd took four wickets to seal the win and set up the clash with holders St Johnston. It’s been quite a few weeks for the Donegal side who have also reached numerous youth finals as well as the Midweek Cup showdown. It all augurs well for an excellent final at The Rectory.
