With CIYMS and Instonians enjoying a day off from league action following Friday’s Cup Final North Down took the opportunity to join CI at the head of the table with a battling win at Muckamore while Carrickfergus will carry a winning streak against Waringstown into a third season.

At Moylena Peter Eakin (5-23) was the early destroyer for North Down as he took early wickets. Only Steve Lazars offered resistance with a battling 48 as the home side could only total 121 in a day of rain interruptions.

It was Eakin again with 39 who top scored for the visitors in a game further reduced to 39 overs. In the event Muckamore’s poor start and sub-par total meant that the North Down target was only 113 and was duly achieved with half a dozen overs to spare.

North Down are now level with CI on 28 points and with the chance to pull ahead in today’s scheduled fixture with CSNI and the crunch head-to-head meeting at The Green next Saturday 10th will be a ‘not to miss’ for the neutrals.

Carrickfergus have a remarkable record against Waringstown over the past few seasons and yesterday completed a ‘double double’ of league victories, winning by 4 wickets in a much interrupted DLS encounter.

Runs were hard to come by at The Lawn and only thanks to a lone hand of 63* from Lee Nelson were Waringstown able to total anything like a respectable total in an innings reduced to 41 overs.

Further rain and that sub-par total of 178 worked in Carrick’s favour and set a winning target of 123 in 23 overs tipping the odds definitely in the visitors’ favour.

Waringstown are never ones to give up and it was only a masterful innings by Jamie Holmes (66*) that saw the Cowboys over the line.

The Waringstown league challenge is falling away and the win saw Carrick join them in mid-table now both with 20 points.

At Wallace Park it was another lone hand in a low scoring affair with Faiz Fazal dominating the Lisburn innings to finish with 99 out of the home side total of 157 in the allotted 35 overs.

A DLS reduced target of 141 for the visitors proved no obstacle as skipper James Kennedy (34) steered CSNI home by 7 wickets with eleven overs to spare.
