Saturday's Premier roundup
CIYMS slumped to their first league defeat since the opening weekend of the 2018 season going down by 29 runs away to Carrickfergus.
One hundred and ninety is a losing score at Middle Road more often than not and the home side were second favourites at the interval. Iain Parkhill (52) and CJ van der Walt (43) were top scorers for the home side while Obus Pineaar with 4, Jacob Mulder 3, and Nigel Jones 2 took the wickets for the visitors.
It was a case of spin to win as Jacques Snyman and CJ van der Walt spun out seven wickets between them for only 41 runs, Snyman with 4 and vd Walt 3.
Chris Dougherty (37) top scored for the visitors but only Nigel Jones (29) offered support and for once the tail was exposed and failed to deliver, Carrick winners by 29 runs as CI were bowled out in less than forty overs.
Spin the order of the day at the Lawn as well where Gareth Kidd’s five-for and Lee Nelson’s 3-30 ensured that Lisburn would not chase down Waringstown’s 227.
Runs in that total for Lee Nelson who scored a half-century, David Dawson 32 and a late order 29 from Haseeb Azam.
A vital win for Waringstown, as indeed they all are now, they sit with 4 defeats to North Down’s 2 and CI’s 1 and have played a game more than the two sides above them.
An André Malan century could not save CSNI at home to basement side Muckamore who chased down 208 with two overs to spare, Fazal Iqbal with 50 and Karthik Rajevelu 43 seeing the visitors record only their second win of the season.
Fellow strugglers Instonians limited the damage of that Muckamore win with a surprise win at The Green.
North Down had lost only once this season and would have thought that Inst’s 179 didn’t really present a major obstacle to them maintaining their place alongside CI at the top of the table.
For Instonians it was Andrew White top scoring with 63 supported by Robert McKinley adding a useful 26.
It was the pace of Josh Manley that got Inst off to a dream start removing both Stuart Nelson and Peter Eakin without scoring.
With Andrew White and Ben Rose providing the spin option in the middle overs which claimed Pretorious, Burns and Magowan it only remained for Manley to return and pick up the final two to give the visitors a 17 run margin of victory.
