THE Test match may dominate this week’s action but it has not stopped CIYMS captain Nigel Jones and his Waringstown counterpart Greg Thompson from agreeing to play the Lagan Valley Steels Cup T20 Final at The Lawn on Friday (5pm).

Unless the Test match is over in two days – let’s pray it isn’t! – the loyal sponsors are unlikely to get the coverage they deserve and many spectators who would have attended the popular final will miss it, having already booked their stay in London.

The captains turned down the original date (July15), mainly because of player unavailability but also because it would have meant playing three days in a row, with CI due to play their Irish Cup quarter-final in Dublin the day before.

The day after postponing the T20 final, CI agreed to Leinster's request to put back their Irish Cup quarter-final in Dublin from July 14 to yesterday, with the Belmont side winning by six wickets.
