The Dragons are Super 3 champions yet again after their 50 overs match against the Typhoons was abandoned at Holywood due to persistent rain.

Only 17.2 overs were possible on a day when the rain was never too far away at Seapark, with umpires Dessie Milne and Gary Blair being left with little alternative but to call a halt after an early tea was taken.

Batting first, Irish internationals Rachel Delaney (21) and Mary Waldron (20) put on an opening partnership of 58 in 76 balls, before Delaney was well caught by Irish skipper Laura Delany off the bowling of Sarah Condron in her first over.

Ireland U15 international Condron (2-11) then yorked her former Malahide team mate Waldron in her following over with the total on 62.

Just six more runs were added by Cliodhna O'Riordan and overseas player Kerrie Tomlinson before the match was abandoned.

The series concludes at YMCA next Sunday (July 28) with all three teams playing double headers in three T20 matches which will serve as valuable preparation for the World Cup Qualifiers in Scotland next month.
