Laura Delany top scored with 33 but Ireland Women were well beaten by the England Academy in the first of their three T20 matches this week.

The Irish skipper shared a stand of 51 for the 5th wicket with Mary Waldron who hit 22.

Una Raymond-Hoey (19), Orla Prendergast (17) and Gaby Lewis (10) all got starts but none kicked on.

The Irish total of 136 for 7 looked below par and that was how it panned out.

The inexperienced Irish attack was exposed as the hosts got off to a flier, and despite the best efforts of Prendergast (pictured) (3-25), they romped home with 20 balls and five wickets to spare.

The teams meet again on Wednesday and Thursday.

This series was organized at short notice following the cancellation of the Zimbabwe series, and is being used by the Girls in Green as part of their preparation for the T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Scotland next month.
