Naseer Shaukat rolled back the years as he took 7 for 20 helping The Hills' brush aside the challenge of Phoenix to claim the Leinster Senior League Cup at Milverton.

There was little sign of the carnage to come as Ben Beecroft (21) and Louis McDonough (12) shared an opening stand of 31, before the game took a dramatic turn.

Shaukat's guile destroyed the much vaunted Phoenix top and middle order, on his way to recording the best figures in the competition's 84-year finals history.

His victims included former Hills player Nic Pretorius, Irish international Simi Singh and Phoenix skipper Adam Chester - all without scoring.

Ben White's unbeaten 24 spared them the ignominy of recording the lowest score in a final, but a total of 84 was never going to be enough to defend.

Cormac McLoughlin-Gavin fell early in the reply, but Joe Carroll (35), Bhavesh Lakhotia (21) and Mark Donegan (20*) all ensured victory was achieved in under 20 overs.

A great start to the season for The Hills in their Golden Jubilee year, and they will be hoping to add more silverware to the cabinet before the year ends.
