Haseeb Azam took five wickets and run machine Greg Thompson hit 57 as Waringstown beat CIYMS, while CSNI romped to a ten-wicket win over Instonians in the Lagan Valley Steels T20 games.

Azam claimed 5 for 9 as a CIYMS side shorn of five regulars scored 118 for 9. Obus Pienaar hit 4 sixes in a top score of 30, while Chris Dougherty and James Cameron-Down made 25 apiece.

Azam set the tone for the innings dismissing Jacob Mulder in the first over, before CI rallied with a second wicket stand of 58 between Pienaar and Dougherty, before Phil Eaglestone (2-22) got the vital wicket of the South African.

It looked as if it would be a close run contest as early wickets for Cameron-Dow (2-14) saw the holders slip to 61 for 4.

However the in-form Lawn skipper Greg Thompson hit 9 fours and a six in his 57 from 37 balls, sharing a match winning stand of 54 for the fifth wicket with Marcus McClean (20*) to go top of Group A.

In Group B, Andre Malan produced a fine all-round display as CSNI thumped an out of sorts Instonians by 10 wickets.

Shane Getkate hit 3 sixes and 3 fours in a joint top score of 39 along with Nikolai Smith, but Malan claimed three wickets as the Shaw's Bridge side made 125 for 9 - Ireland keeper Gary Wilson and Ben Adair taking two wickets apiece.

CSNI strolled to their target with Marc Ellison hitting 9 fours and a six in his 60 not out, while Malan cleared the ropes three times and clubbed 5 fours in his unbeaten 61.

There are two matches on Friday with Carrick hosting Lisburn at Middle Road, while North Down entertain Muckamore.
