James Newland and Tom Stanton take a combined 7 for 19 as Leinster Bolts beat a Danish Development XI by 19 runs in a low scoring contest on a tricky College Park pitch.

Chasing 117, the Danish reply got off to a terrible start losing two wickets to the first two balls - the first a leg-side stumping off a wide by Patrick Tice from Merrion colleague Tom Stanton.

That was the first of four dismissals for the impressive Tice, a former Irish Under 19 international.

Stanton then trapped Rizwan Mahmood lbw and went on to take 3 for 7 with his left-armers.

He was outshone though by another left-armer - Malahide's James Newland claiming 4 for 12 as the Danes struggled to 97 for 9.

Hamid Shah - who has played two seasons for The Hills, and has signed for Merrion - made a patient 30, while Oliver Holt clubbed two sixes in his 19, but it was too little, too late.

Earlier, Eddie Richardson (28) and Matt Ford, who hit 27 from 17 balls (3 fours, 1 six) top scored as the Bolts overcame a sluggish start - 43/3 at the half-way stage to post 116 for 9.

For the Danes Jino Jojo, Omar Hayatt and Nicolaj Damgaard each claimed a brace of wickets.

The teams meet again today and tomorrow at the same venue - each of the T20 games getting underway at 11am and 4pm.
