Josh Uddin, late of Halverstown, Railway Union, North Kildare, Terenure and Clondalkin, had a spectacular introduction to Munster cricket last weekend, scoring 215 for Co Kerry 2nds against Limerick 2nds at Adare. According to the most comprehensive records, his innings was the 150th double century yet recorded in Irish cricket.

Highest innings: 313* by Capt W C Oates (Munster Fusiliers) against the Army Service Corps at the Curragh Camp 1895. The second highest innings was scored by his partner that day, Private F Fitzgerald who made 287 in a stand of 623 in a match which was described as “bordering on farcical”

Highest innings by an unknown batsman: 300* by a visiting sailor in Midleton, 19th Century.

Highest limited overs innings: 295* by Glendermott pro Roy Silva, against Cliftonville in a 40-over Ulster Shield game in 2014. He faced only 91 balls and hit 34 sixes.

Highest first-class innings: 239* by NVH Riches (Wales) v Ireland in Ormeau, 1925.

Highest innings in international: 239* by Riches (above), and Australian legend Mark Waugh, playing for MCC, at Castle Avenue in 1986.

Highest for Ireland: 231, Ed Joyce in an Intercontinental Cup game v UAE in Malahide in 2015.

Highest in an interprovincial: 247*, by Nick Larkin (Northern Knights) v Leinster Lightning, 2013.

Highest score by a woman: 232* by Amelia Kerr (NZ) against Ireland in 2018.

Highest score by an Irish woman: 201* by Isobel Joyce (Merrion) against Malahide in 2010.
