Cregagh and Templepatrick are into the next round of the Gallagher Insurance Senior Cup after both recorded comfortable wins in the preliminary round games.

Half centuries from Craig Irvine and skipper Aaron Johnston helped Cregagh to 211 for 5 in their 47 overs.

They had come together at 58 for 5, with Sam Glass taking four wickets to have them deep in strife.

Irvine though played positively on his way to 87 not out, adding an unbroken 153 with Johnston who was 61.

Needing 214 in 47 overs, Ballymena stuttered to 124 all out with Danny Cooper taking a five-wicket haul.

John Glass top scored with 22 on a day to forget for the Eaton Park side.

It was a similar story at The Cloughan where Templepatrick ousted Donacloney Mill by an emphatic 166 run margin.

Skipper Ross Bryans hit 73 and overseas player Ari Smith 56 on their way to 252 for 7.

The DM reply never got going as they were skittled for just 86, with three wickets apiece for Bryans and Stewart, while Weir claimed 2 for 20.

Their reward is a home tie against Downpatrick in the first round proper, with Cregagh also having home advantage over Derriaghy.

Those ties are down for decision on Saturday June 1.
