Stephen Kennedy and Jonny Robinson starred as Ballyspallen and Brigade won the Sam McConnell Charity Cups at The Rectory.

Kennedy hit 5 sixes and 5 fours in a hard-hit unbeaten 57 from just 23 balls as Spallen chased 173 to beat Newbuildings off the penultimate delivery.

Craig Averill (48) and Kyle Morrow (47) set the platform for the chase with an opening stand of 95, but Peter Allen claimed 4 for 18 - including overseas professional Brendon Louw first ball to see them wobbling at 112 for 5 before Kennedy's dramatic intervention.

Earlier Darnell McCallum had top scored against his former employers, hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes in 49 from 34 balls, adding 69 for the second wicket with Mark Hanna (24).

Jason Dunn clubbed 5 sixes in a quickfire 48 to take Newbuildings to 172 - which looked enough until Kennedy's fireworks.

The second match was something of a damp squib after the excitement of the opening clash.

Jonny 'Bap' Robinson's five wicket haul saw league champions Bready dismissed for just 78 - tail-ender Conor Olphert adding a mere semblance of respectability with 21 not out.

Irosh Samarasooriya made 20 but the rest of the side struggled to impose themselves on the Brigade attack.

Robinson took the bowling honours with his 5 for 20, while Rachit Gaur took 2 for 16.

Brigade eased to the 9-wicket win in 11 overs, with Gareth McKeegan the only wicket - run out for 22.

Johnny Thompson (29*) and Kyle Magee (28*) were also among the runs in the one-sided contest.
