It was a mixed campaign for Downpatrick in 2018, winning 10 and losing 8 of their league programme. They did have cup glory in the T20 competition, beating favourites Holywood to the title at The lawn.
They have a new captain at the helm as well as a new overseas player. Ryan Smyth is the man entrusted with the skipper's armband to guide them to Premier League cricket, with last year's skipper Ross Boultwood his deputy.
Looking ahead to the campaign, a Downpatrick spokesperson said:
"For the 2019 season Ryan Smyth takes over from Ross Boultwood as Captain. As well as being one of the best players in the NCU Ryan has everything it takes to be a great leader on the pitch and the Club will be aiming to mount a serious title challenge as well as a strong defence of the T20 Trophy.
"In the second eleven Paul Tate will look to build on last seasons success of winning Junior 3 at the first time of trying after relegation in 2017.
"The fact that the Club struggled to field two teams just a short time ago to the position where there is a lot of competition for places shows the hard work of all Club members is paying off. Strong focus will continue on developing youth players. To that end James Chappell is joining for the summer from his native Australia."
