Dublin University have assembled as exciting a bunch of youngsters as they managed for many years and being in the new league can look forward to games against sides they haven't faced for a long time.

Quality youngsters such as Sunil Gupta, Eoghan Grehan, and Irish U9 internationals Andrew Vincent and Max Neville, will be complemented by the very talented Waqar Azmat and overseas professional Matt Kuhnemann.

Kuhnemann is a 22 year-old left-arm spinner and left-handed batsman, who has played for Australia Under 19's as well as representing Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash this year.

Irish international Lorcan Tucker is once again entrusted with the captain's armband and is relishing the start of the new era in Leinster league cricket.

"The new league structure for this season gives us an opportunity to play against some of the best teams in the province," said Tucker.

"We have been a bit up and down in previous years with our performances, but we believe that the new League Cup competition will give us an opportunity to prove ourselves.

"We have some fresh faces to accompany the core squad from last year. Sunil Gupta and Max Neville, both first year students and sports scholars, have joined the club from Pembroke and Merrion respectively.

"Waqar Azmat has also joined the club and we hope he can produce some match-winning knocks, as he did for Clontarf last season.

"Our club professional for 2019, Matt Kuhnemann, featured for the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash this winter. We hope he can settle in quickly to life in Dublin and give some strong performances with both bat and ball."

Clubs would do well not to underestimate the students who look capable of producing some big results in the early days of the competition.
