Malahide enjoyed a very successful 2018 which saw them go unbeaten as they clinched the Division One title.
Former Irish international Fintan McAllister is once again entrusted with the skipper’s armband, and he has a few new faces under his wing, with Damien Mortimer and Kelvin Donnelly joining the village side.
Mortimer is a former New South Wales and Australian U19 all-rounder who has scored heavily in Grade cricket, while he has also previous overseas experience in the UK.
Looking ahead to the new season McAllister told CricketEurope: “We are really just going to be taking each game as it comes. Our first goal will be to qualify for the Premier League out of the new structure and hopefully capture some silverware along the way. We are a really tight knit group at Malahide and a lot us have played together and enjoyed our cricket for a long time.
“Everyone is buzzing for the season ahead. We had a very successful 2018 and we are looking to carry that momentum forward into the new campaign and maybe even go a step further.
“We have a fantastic new ball partnership in Peter Chase and James Newland. Chaser is obviously an Irish international while James has been training all winter with Leinster Lightning. Matt Ford had an incredible season with the bat last year and he’s itching to get going again this time.
“John Pryor junior came on board last year as our manager and he does some phenomenal work behind the scenes and down in training. There’s a great atmosphere around the village. We can’t wait for the action to begin and hopefully we’ll have more success in 2019.”
