There was a major boost for the NW region with five players named in representative squads - three in the Ireland Academy and two in the Women's Super 3 Series.

Ballyspallen's Graham Kennedy, Strabane's Aaron Gillespie and Brigade's new recruit Ross Allen have been picked in a 14-man squad for the Ireland Academy's short tour to England next month.

The trio have all been plying their trade in grade cricket in Australia this winter with some success.

Ireland are scheduled to play five matches - two each against Bath and Gloucestershire Seconds, with the remaining match against an England Development XI.

The games are scheduled between April 13-17.

Meanwhile in a fillip for the women's game in the NW, Eglinton's Zara Craig and Bready's Alana Dalzell have both been named in the squads for the Super 3 Series.

Both have previously represented Ireland at youth level.
