There was little cheer for Irish supporters as their side was defeated by an Oman Development XI in the first of two warm-up matches.
Having lost the toss and asked to bat a top order collapse saw Ireland reduced to 45 for 6.
Indeed the first over, while it saw 9 runs, also saw the departure of Paul Stirling and in the second Stuart Thompson was run out with Kevin O'Brien out for only a single off the last ball.
It required runs down the order from George Dockrell (26*) and Andrew Balbirnie, Stuart Poynter, Josh Little and Boyd Rankin all with scores in the teens for Ireland to eke out 112 for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
In the Omani reply Josh Little claimed a wicket in the first over and Peter Chase another in the third but runs were coming freely and at a rate that Ireland were never able to match in their innings.
Inevitable then that Sanuth Ibrahim (26 off 16) and Suraj Kumar (56* off 41) ensured that the Omanis reached their target of 113 with 28 balls remaining.
Josh Little with 2-14 off 3 overs and Peter Chase with 2 but at a cost of 42 runs from his four overs were the most successful bowlers, Simi Singh claiming 1-6 off the two overs he bowled.
The two sides meet again at the same venue in another warm-up match before the real action which starts next Wednesday.
