Phoenix have signed Indian all-rounder Poonish Mehta as their overseas player for the 2019 season.

The 25 year-old paceman helped Merrion to the Premier league title in 2018, enjoying a fine all-round campaign.

His haul of 41 wickets at just 14.95 saw him top the Leinster charts, with his best-bowling return of 6 for 8 coming against his new club.

He also showed himself no mug with the bat scoring 469 runs at just under 30, with two half centuries against North County and Pembroke.

New Phoenix Head Coach Stephen Moreton welcomed the new acquisition, speaking to the Phoenix Facebook Page.

"We are looking forward to Poonish joining the club. He is clearly a huge asset to the team, and it will be a superb opportunity for the younger players to look up to and learn from him.

"It is an important signing for us as we begin a new era at Phoenix."
