Former Ireland Women's Head Coach Stephen Moreton has been appointed Head Coach of Phoenix CC.

The 34 year-old takes over at the helm after a troubled year for Leinster's oldest club.

He will have to cope without the services of the recently retired Reinhardt Strydom, and the three Anders' brothers who have switched to YMCA.

The club have been criticized in certain quarters for their over reliance on overseas players and the appointment of Moreton in a purely coaching capacity seems to signal a switch in the club policy.

Moreton told the Phoenix club website: I am very proud to have been given the opportunity to lead Phoenix Cricket Club in an exciting and challenging new direction. The natural resources of the club are outstanding, as is the legacy and history of the club.

"I have been away from the game for 3 years, focusing upon coaching, facilitation and strategy in other areas of business and sport and I am looking forward to applying those experiences to help Phoenix back to the forefront of Irish cricket, across the board.
