Double Appointment for Leinster CC
Leinster Cricket Club has announced the double appointment of Jarryd Chetty as its Director of Cricket, and Laura Delany as its Girl’s Head Coach.
Jarryd will begin his new role immediately, while Laura will start at the end of April.
Delany started playing cricket in the Rathmines club when she was six years old and now captains the 1st XI, who topped Division 1 this year for the first time in nine years.
The Irish captain is currently in Melbourne, where she is playing for Dandenong CC. She will start her new position as soon as she returns at the end of April.
“I’ve coached in Leinster previously, but I am really looking forward to taking a senior coaching role this Summer and working alongside Jarryd. I think it will be a great opportunity for me to develop my coaching skills and help develop the next group of young players.”
Being a Level 1 coach, and her experience playing at the top level, means that the 70+ girls in Leinster are in good hands next season. Delany will coach all the girl’s teams from 5yr olds to U19s as well as taking one-to-ones throughout the summer.
Jarryd Chetty might not have been in Leinster for as long as Laura, but he has quickly become a favourite at Observatory Lane, since he arrived half way through last season.
The South African moved to Ireland earlier this year to take a full-time job in CUS, but Jarryd is keen to make an impact in Leinster in his spare time and during the summer when the school is closed.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of LCC and really excited about the upcoming season. LCC has excellent structures throughout the club and I will be looking to build on that solid foundation. My main focus will be youth development with the aim to build a strong club culture from a young age.”
Chetty comes with 12 years coaching experience, and holds a Level 3 coaching qualification. Before his move, Chetty was the Director of Cricket at Glenwood High, one of the top 5 schools in South Africa.
His role in LCC will be to oversee all cricket in the club, focusing on the youth programme and Men’s senior sessions and matches.
“With the new structures in place we hope to produce more Irish Internationals in the mould of George Dockrell who has been an outstanding role model for the youth at the club. I’m also very excited to have another great role model and current Irish captain, Laura Delany, on our coaching team. She will be a great asset.”
