Glendermott have announced the signing of Keshan Wijerathne this weekend as the Bonds Street outfit prepares for their impending return to the top flight of North West cricket.
The 22-year old fast bowler has been earning rave reviews back home of late and the Waterside club's skipper, Gordon Montgomery, says they are looking forward to welcoming their new man in April.
"Quite a bit of work has gone into this signing and we took advice from the right people first" he admitted.
"Keshan only came on the books of Steven Hirst very recently, but we had been monitoring his situation. He seems to be developing a decent reputation among representative selectors in Sri Lanka. We would like to thank Steven for his help in getting the move over the line."
'Goofer' has retained the captain's armband at the Rectory for 2019 and said he was looking forward to the new challenge.
"We have pretty much the same squad of players that won the Championship last season akthough Keshan looks sure to add genuine quality. We're still hopeful of bringing in one more proven Premiership player as well, and if we do that we feel we'll hold our own."
Gordon also admitted he was looking forward to captaining the team on its return to the top table, but added with a smile that he hoped those words "didn't come back to bite him".
