James Shannon will not be leaving Instonians for Malahide.

The Irish international batsman was reportedly on the radar of the newly promoted village side as they looked to strengthen their squad for their Premiership return.

The club's proximity to both Ireland's main training centres at North County and Abbotstown were factors in Shannon giving serious consideration to a move to Malahide.

However his strong ties to his boyhood club Instonians means he is unlikely to move anywhere.

In a recent interview with the News Letter, Shannon quoted Franseco Totti of Roma who when asked why he had refused many offers to bigger clubs: "Why would you leave your poor parents to live with rich strangers?"

Excellent sentiments.
