Tyrone Kane has followed in the footsteps of Ed Joyce after making his debut for the University of Western Australia.

Kane took 2 for 29 in his first match for the UWA, with one of his two victims being Australian international Travis Birt.

The University won the match by eight wickets, but it's been a frustrating time for Kane since due to injury and bead weather.

"It was great to make a successful start on my debut, taking 2 for 29 in the win over Wanneroo," said Kane.

"I hadn't realised that Ed Joyce had played for the University back in 2001 so it's great to be following his path.

"I've had a side niggle so was due to play for the seconds this weekend as a batsman only but the game fell foul of bad weather.

"Hopefully I'll be fit again for the firsts next week."
