It was a season of struggle for the defending champions, needing a play-off against Rush to secure their Premier place for 2019.

The batting was led by overseas player Monil Patel who was one of four players to average in the 30's. No player managed three figures, but Patel scored four 50's on his way to 587 runs at 34.53.

Joe Carroll was next with 444 at 31.71 (3 fifties), ahead of George Dockrell who made 389 runs at 38.90, and Gareth Delany 338 at 21.12.

Joe Carroll was the stand-out bowler taking 32 wickets at just over 20, while Bilal Azhar was next in line with 21 victims at 26.67.

Gareth Delany (18), Saqib Bahadur (13), Andrew Clough (12), and George Dockrell (11) were the other players to reach double figures.

Skipper George Dockrell reflected on the season saying: "In terms of the year there was some ups and downs for us. We got off to a great start in the first match chasing down 50 to get a full point win.

"From there we struggled in what was a very competitive league and it was a tough year. There were a lot of teams playing some very good cricket and we definitely found it hard. I was happy at the way towards the end we managed to fight and scrap and get a few wins that keep us in Division One for next year.

"While it was certainly a tough campaign in the league, our T20 form was more promising and we made finals day. We played some really positive cricket and what was really pleasing was the fact we blooded some youngsters who came into the set-up and performed really well.

"The likes of Craig and Eunan Mackay, Tristan de Beer, all came for debuts and showed their undoubted potential and that will stand them and the club in good stead come the 2019 season. That was probably the most pleasing aspect of the summer seeing them take their chances and hopefully we can build around them for the future. I'm already excited about the future prospects for 2019 and hopefully we can do ourselves a bit more justice next time out."

Leinster Ladies captured the Premier league title in a superb season for them, while youth section was as prominent and vibrant as ever.

Many reasons to be optimistic at Rathmines.
