Namibia withdraw from CSA competitions
Cricket Namibia Press Release
Cricket Namibia has taken part in the Sunfoil 3 Day Cup and the Provincial 1 Day Challenge for many years. We are extremely grateful to Cricket South Africa for allowing us to take part in these completions, which involvement has played a significant role in the development of our National Menís Cricket team. As testimony to this fact we achieved a first for Namibia in that we reached the final of the 3 Day Cup in 2018, losing to KZN, and performed creditably in the Provincial 1 day Challenge during the same period
Due to our geographic location, it is inevitable that our traveling distances, and the travelling times required, have become increasingly prohibitive with the increase in travel costs year on year. Similarly the total number of days required to compete, inclusive of travelling, has posed increasing problems for our non-professional players. For obvious logistical reasons our costs in these regards are unfortunately far higher over the course of the season than equivalent costs for our SA Provincial competitors individually.
After due and careful consideration, and with clear understanding of our international obligations, Cricket Namibia have taken the proactive decision to withdraw from the Sunfoil 3 Day Cup and the Provincial 1 Day Challenge for 2018/19 and have communicated this to CSA who have kindly agreed to this request. It is our intention to use the openings in our fixtures list to arrange matches such as to mitigate the time and distance challenges mentioned whilst retaining the integrity of our national competitive calendar.
Cricket Namibia would once again like to extend our appreciation to Cricket South Africa for having allowed us this excellent opportunity over the years. We would also like to thank all of the Provincial teams that we have faced and look forward to the possibility of reengaging in the future.
