Nathan Smith took four wickets in his first appearance of the season for Northern Districts in the Sydney Premier League.

The 23 year-old was on the verge of Irish senior selection this year before injury struck on the eve of the first Test against Pakistan.

The serious side injury sustained kept the Instonians and Northern Knights seamer out of action for four months, meaning most of his season was a write-off.

Smith had the excellent figures of 4 for 51 as a strong Mosman side was dismissed for 311.

It proved to be a good weekend for the Irish players, with Harry Tector scoring 118 for Randwick Petersham.
