Canada are still unbeaten in the Americas sub-regional qualifier for the 2020 World Twenty20 after a super over win over their oldest rivals today in North Carolina.

The home team won the toss and chose to bat first. Sunny Sohal top scored for them with 38 as the USA scored 140-8 from their 20 overs. Nitish Kumar was the pick of the Canadian bowlers with 3-6, and now has nine wickets at an average of 1.67 in the tournament.

Kumar contributed 23 to his team's run chase, but was outscored by Navneet Dhaliwal's 29 and Rizwan Cheema's unbeaten 32. Cheema played a key role in securing the tie in the regulation 20 overs when, with Canada needing 7 to win from the last ball, he hit a six to bring the scores level.

The crowd of approximately 1500 then had some bonus cricket to watch with a Super Over. Steven Taylor of the USA needed a six from the last ball of their over to bring the scores level and win on boundary count-back, but could only manage 4 and Canada won by 2 runs.

Earlier in the day, Belize beat Panama by 12 runs for their first win of the tournament. The tournament will continue today with Canada taking on Belize and the USA playing Panama.
