The Dragons have completed a series victory for the second time in three years despite the final match of the Super 3s being abandoned after the first innings at Clontarf.

While rain delayed the start of the match and reduced the game to a 40-over a side affair, once underway both sides demonstrated why they have been the best two sides over the past four seasons with some high quality cricket on display.

Irish internationals Isobel Joyce (52 off 49 balls; 6 x fours) and Kim Garth (45 off 51 balls; 5 x fours) were the mainstays in the Scorchers side in a total of 175 in 37 overs.

For the Dragons, Hannah Little (3-26) and Rachel Delaney (3-35) took three wickets apiece, while 17-year old Irish International Lara Maritz – who has had a stellar season leading the bowling attack – claimed two wickets on her home club ground.

Unfortunately for the fans present a persistent, misty rain settled in at the conclusion of the Scorchers innings and the match was eventually abandoned.

A number of players in the match will complete their club cricket seasons on Sunday, and then the 16 players selected for the Women’s World T20 training squad will begin intensive preparations for the November tournament.

The Women’s World T20 training squad is:

Laura Delany, Kim Garth, Cecelia Joyce, Isobel Joyce, Shauna Kavanagh, Amy Kenealy, Gaby Lewis, Louise Little, Lara Maritz, Ciara Metcalfe, Cara Murray, Lucy O’Reilly, Eimear Richardson, Clare Shillington, Rebecca Stokell, Mary Waldron.
