Division Two of the European Division Two qualifier for the 2020 Under-19 World Cup resumed today in Essex, with the Netherlands winning again to make it three wins from three.
Coming up against Spain at Cricket Field Lane in Bishop's Stortford and batting first after winning the toss, the Dutch initially had something of a scare when Shehryaar Riaz took two wickets before a run was scored in the first over.
Three other top order batsmen were also out for low scores, but Niels Etman held firm. After the fall of the fifth wicket on 110 he was joined by Arnav Jain. The two put on an unbroken 147 to take the Dutch total to 257-5. Etman scored 140, whilst Jain scored 61.
Only two batsmen reached double figures in Spain's reply as they were bowled out for just 63, losing by 194 runs. Arnav Jain completed a fine all round performance with 4-18, whilst Philippe Boissevain took 3-8.
The other match in Group B at Loughton Cricket Club saw Belgium bat first after winning the toss against Denmark. Sami Ibrahim was the pick of the eight Danish bowlers with 3-24 as Belgium were bowled out for 112. Denmark lost four wickets in reply but chased down their target in 18 overs to secure the six wicket win.
Over in Group A at Harlow Sportcentre Italy were put into bat by Guernsey. A 99 run third wicket partnership between Kashan Mazhar and Jaskaran Singh provided the backbone to Italy's total of 202. Those two scored 80 not out and 62 respectively, but no other Italian batsman reached double figures.
In reply, Nathan Le Tissier led the way for Guernsey with an unbeaten 87 as they completed a three wicket win with 11 balls to spare. He'd also taken 3-34 in the Italian innings, though Matthew Philip was the leading bowler with 3-23.
Nearby at the Harlow Town Cricket Club, France were put into bat by Sweden and scored 226 in 48.3 overs. Noman Amjad top scored for them with 49, whilst Kishan Patel and Hassan Raza also chipped in with 45 and 42 respectively. Qamar Islam was then the pick of the bowlers for France, taking 3-27 as Sweden were bowled out for 108 in 34 overs to lose by 118 runs.
Tomorrow will be another rest day, with Group B play resuming on Sunday. The Netherlands will look to secure their place in next year's Division One tournament when they play Belgium, whilst Denmark will come up against Scandinavian rivals Norway. Group A will resume on Monday.
