A superb all-round performance saw Leinster Under 13s open the Taunton Festival with a hard fought 19-run win over Leicestershire.

A solid batting effort saw Leinster post 192 for 7, with Pembroke's Harry Dagg top scoring with 32 from 47 balls, stroking four boundaries.

He shared a second wicket stand of 51 with Srihan Karpe of YMCA making 28.

Eoin Birch of Balbriggan (pictured) hit 4 fours in an unbeaten 31, adding a rapid and as it turned out a crucial 43 for the 7th wicket with Francis Manzocchi.

Manzocchi was at his best, the Railway Union youngster clubbing 5 fours in his 30 from just 23 balls which took his team to 192 for 7 in their 40 overs.

The Leicestershire reply got off to a poor start as Eoin Birch (2-34) picked up two wickets, while Merrion's Daniel Forkin bowled tightly, conceding just 11 runs in his 8-over spell.

Karl Flynn, Srihan Karpe and Eoin MacNulty took a wicket apiece as Leinster restricted Leicestershire to 173 for 6 to secure a winning-draw start to the tournament.

Coach Reinhardt Strydom paid tribute to his team after the performance saying:

"It was a great start to this prestigious tournament with both bat and ball. Everyone chipped in contributing to what is a superb victory for the young squad, and a vindication of all their hard work over the past year.

"The team showed a maturity beyond their tender years, and held their nerve when things were tight.

"The are aware it's only the start of the tournament, and we face a really tough task on Tuesday against Kent in our next match."
