Match 3 from Kingís College, Taunton.

The final day of the u11 tournament saw the NCU u11s play Zeal Academy from San Francisco.

Temperatures again were in the high 20ís as the top two clashed. In a repeat of last years scenario the final match proved a bridge too far for the NCU boys as Zeal Academy won the game comfortably by a 180 run margin.

The run chase never really got off the ground as a combination of tight bowling and some poor shot selection saw the NCU bundled out for a paltry 90.

Daniel Henry top scored with 15, with Hollway, Donnelly and Hanna the only other batters to reach double figures.

A few ill judged calls caused two run outs which did little to help the cause!

The 3rd consecutive day of tough cricket was a physical and mental challenge that the boys could not rise to and the tremendous efforts of the day before clearly had taken their toll.

A solid batting performance by Zeal was helped by a disappointing bowling and fielding shift by the NCU although Hollway (1/33)and Hanna (2/33) deserve a mention in dispatches for taking 3 wickets between them at an economical rate when the charge was on - a couple of easy catches grassed would have further boosted their figures.

Credit where due though, the Zeal order had strength in depth and they punished anything loose mercilessly.

Pranav (52*) and Sahil (41) were the top performers and 4 others got into the twenties. A daunting 270/8 was always going to be a struggle.

A win, a losing draw and a defeat was a creditable performance and the coaches were very pleased with the attitude and behaviour of the players both on and off the field. T

he players have definitely made improvements and will hopefully take the learning back to their clubs and continue to work at their game. The tour is a superb opportunity for players to taste, at an early age, whatís itís like to be a top level cricketer and has hopefully whetted their appetites for more.

Good job boys.
