MUCKAMORE avenged their opening day defeat and could have condemned Armagh to an immediate return to Section One of the Robinson Services League.

It is only halfway through the 14-match programme but Armagh are already eight points adrift at the bottom, although they have a winnable game today when a vastly under-strength Instonians side visit The Mall (1pm).

Shadley van Schalkwyk continues to carry the team with a superb 142 yesterday, but his team-mates could manage only 79 between them, which wasn’t enough in reply to the Muckamore’s 308-7, the biggest score of the season here.

The Moylena side, who now have four wins, had four batsmen who passed 50, with professional Fahad Iqbal leading the way with 77 and Jamie Magowan the fastest of the them all, finishing the innings with 72 not out.

Van Schalkwyk’s innings was dwarfed in the North West by Gareth McKeegan, who hit 216 not out to take Brigade to a vital six wickets win over champions Donemana. McKeegan hit 21 fours and 16 sixes.
