The NCU clinched the Under 17 interpro title after a 43 run win over Leinster, pipping the Southern XI on NRR.

Batting first at a picture postcard perfect Campbell College, the NCU raced out of the blocks as their top order took on the Leinster attack.

Spearheaded by Max Burton who hit 4 fours and 3 sixes in a powerful 46 from 25 balls, and an equally rapid 44 from Reece Malone, the hosts posted an imposing 179 for 6 in their 20 overs.

Skipper Harry Warke also chipped in with 29.

Cian Nulty was the pick of the Leinster attack, taking 3 for 22, while skipper JJ Garth took 1 for 22, the pair pegging back the NCU who looked as if they would reach 200 at one juncture.

Luke Allison (2-11) bowled tightly at the start, and aided by some fine catching, Leinster were soon in trouble.

Seamus Lynch thumped 3 sixes in an 11-ball 25, but three wickets from Michael Glass and four from Adam Simmonite reduced them to 93 for 9.

Two dropped catches prolonged the innings and they could have cost the NCU the title as Gavin Hoey crashed five sixes in a top score of 39 as the last wicket added 43 runs to reduced the margin of defeat to 43 runs.

Attention then switched to the Southern XI clash with the NW at Carrick.

In a low scoring thriller, the Southern XI stuttered to 76 all out, with two wickets apiece for Ben Mills, Cameron Knight, Gregory McFaul and William Finlay.

The NW without star man Marcus Poskitt - absent on Warriors duty, struggled too as Diarmuid Carey took 3 for 11.

They still looked likely to win as they needed four off the last over with three wickets left, but only managed two as Cillian McDonnell kept it tight.

The one-run win meant the tournament statisticians had to check the NRR, and it was the NCU who prevailed by 0.066.

A fantastic tournament played in great conditions and a fantastic spirit. Well done to all.
