Even with temperatures soaring only one ladies game went down for decision as Bready picked up their first victory against Killyclooney at Magheramason.

After losing the toss and being put into bat, Killyclooney got off to a rocky start as their top 4 batswomen were dismissed for a slim total of 20 in the opening 5 overs due to the precise bowling from Vanessa Buchanan (2-26) and Carol McCrea (2-14).

Now at the crease, Lucy Robinson (14) and Ella McCarron (20) got things going for the ‘Clooney by pushing the total to 55 off 12 overs.

With a change of the bowling from Steph Wilkinson (1-7), the hosts gained another 2 wickets within 2 overs, at this stage the total was sitting nicely at 73.

But It now was the task of Scottish native, Madison Garland to boost the score further and with an aggressive 24 runs off 22 balls she succeeded with Killyclooney finishing on a final total worth 102 runs.

In reply, It had not started all so well for Bready by losing a couple of early wickets in the opening 3 overs for just 10 runs due to fantastic bowling from Lucy Robinson (1-14).

Amy Campbell (23) and Steph Wilkinson (45) led a brief fightback by pushing the total right up to 95 before both were dismissed in the space of 2 balls from the superb bowling from Hollie McCarron (2-23).

At this point the hosts started to sweat as they required 8 runs in the last over but with a few quick sprints between the wicket from Vee Buchanan (3) and Sophie Killen (3) helped the hosts chased down the runs with just one ball to spare.

Speaking after the game, Vanessa Buchanan said,

‘’This was one of the closest games we have played this season, Killyclooney gave us a thriller of a game and they fought hard to the very end.

I am delighted to pick up a victory and I hope we keep up this effort for the reminder of the season.’’
