WARINGSTOWN, the Lagan Valley Steels Twenty20 Cup holders, confirmed their place in this year’s semi-finals with a crushing 82 runs victory over Civil Service North at Stormont on Friday.
Shaheen Khan (103 from 53 balls with seven fours and eight sixes) and Greg Thompson (78 of 43 balls with six sixes and six fours) added 154 in the last 10 overs as the Villagers finished on 229-3. It meant that Instonians were left in third place in Group A despite beating Armagh by seven runs. Armagh hit 53 off the last three overs with Shadley van Schalkwyk finishing 111 not out.
The winners of the final Group B game between CIYMS and Muckamore, on Wednesday evening, will join North Down in the semi-finals after the group winners ended Carrickfergus’ interest with an eight wickets win at Middle Road, Ally Shields finishing 65 not out.
