Joy of Six as McDonnell puts Leinster in a spin

Cillian McDonnell was the six-wicket hero as the Southern XI stunned Leinster in their U17 interpro clash at The Mardyke.

The YMCA left-arm spinner took 6 for 29 as the defending champions were dismissed for 149 chasing 152.

McDonnell tied Leinster up in knots as they collapsed to 98 for 8, with his victims including Neil Rock and JJ Garth.

James Maginnis hit 31 to give Leinster hope, but he was one of Seanan Jones' three wickets in a famous win for the Southerners.

Earlier his YMCA team-mate James Forbes had claimed 5 for 34 and Alex Neary 4 for 23 as the Southern XI made 152 - Ben Askew making 34, and Henry Thompson 23.

The teams will be joined by the NCU and NW in a week-long tournament next month in Belfast, played both 20 and 50 over matches in the revamped format.
