Matthew Humphreys (pictured) played a starring role as the NCU Under 15s got the better of their NW counterparts in the opening match of the interpro series at Wallace Park.

Humphreys took three wickets as the NW were dismissed for 198 as then top scored with 42 in the successful run chase.

There were two wickets apiece also for Matthew Daly (2-26), Adam Wylie (2-34) and Michael Waite (2-35).

Raymond Curry top scored for the visitors as he hit 5 fours and 2 sixes in his 61, dominating a 9th wicket stand of 51 with Ross McLaughlin (18).

Kenzie Hall had clubbed 3 fours and 2 sixes in a 14-ball 29, but most of the NW batsmen struggled.

Their 198 total was boosted by the concession of 60 extras which included 50 wides as the bowlers struggled to find their radar.

The NCU chase was given an ideal start by openers Sam Topping (29) and Adam Ly who put on 57.

Humphreys then added 65 with Ben Beattie (29) before four wickets from Stuart Kennedy (4-26) offered the NW hope as the sixth wicket fell with 35 still needed.

However an undefeated 26 from Michael Waite together with James Lambert (10*) ensured no further alarms as the win was sealed.

The sides travel to North Dublin towards the end of the month when they will be joined by Leinster and the Southern XI for an action packed week of cricket across both 50-over and T20 matches.
