The first of the senior cup quarter-finals was played on Sunday between last yearís finalists Ballyspallen and improving Newbuildings and it was the visitors who booked a semi-final spot with a 69-run win.

Half centuries from Mark Hannah (68) and Stephen Wallace (57) got Newbuildings off to a great start but it was a superb 44-ball 73 not out from skipper Marty Mehaffey that really piled the pressure on the hosts to chase 279.

Darnell McCallum made a quick 40 at the top of Ballyspallenís order and Stephen Kennedy added a valuable half century, however after that the bowlers held the upper hand.

Three wickets for Dean Mehaffey and a couple each for Tommy Thompson and Jason Dunn ensured it was the village club who would be first into the hat for the semi-finals.
