SIMI SINGH and George Dockrell shared a world record unbeaten seventh-wicket partnership of 215 at Milverton yesterday as Leinster Lightning recovered from early woes to beat the Northern Knights by 53 runs in the 50-overs Cup.

The home side were put into bat and in some trouble on 62-6 when Leinster left-armer Dockrell joined YMCA all-rounder Singh in a stand that started cautiously before hitting top gear and then overdrive with 127 runs came from the final 10 overs to send Lightning soaring to 277-6.

Singh struck eight sixes and as many fours is a superb 121 not out, while Dockrell also cleared the ropes four times only to be stranded on 98 not out after the pair had past the previous best List A partnership for the seventh wicket of 203 for Sri Lanka against South Africa in 2008.

Kevin O’Brien and Tyrone Kane took two wickets each to peg back a bright start to the Knights’ reply and there was to be no denying skipper Dockrell who made up for missing out on a century by taking 5-21 from 10 overs and holding the winning catch as the visitors were bowled out for 224.
