The North-West have unveiled their squad for Sunday’s Under 17 interpro opener against the NCU at The Bleachgreen, Ardmore (12pm).

New Head Coach Kevin Martin has selected a squad littered with senior experience, and he will be hoping the squad improves on their 2017 showing, as they suffered heavy losses in both games to finish in the wooden spoon position behind winners Leinster, and runners-up, NCU.

Martin will have the Bready coaching duo of former international Mark Olphert and current Warrior David Scanlon.

There are three representatives from both Fox Lodge and Bready, while Glendermott senior players Todd Killen and Ben Mills are included.

Making up the 13 strong squad are Killyclooney’s William Finlay, Brigade’s new signing Kyle Magee, Eglinton batsman Tommy Orr, Coleraine opener Marcus Poskitt, and Rhys Logue who opened the batting and scored his maiden senior half century for Strabane at the weekend.

“The squad has worked extremely hard over the winter and early season in both their cricket skills and strength & conditioning (led by Kevin Gallagher) ,” said Martin.

“It’s brilliant that their efforts have shown a statistical increase in their fitness levels when tested, as well as their on-field displays for their clubs.

“Hopefully these gains can be turned into improved performances and the squad reap the rewards that their hard work and dedication deserve."

There’s a new format for the youth interpros this season, with T20 matches being included in expanded programmes at U15 and U17 level, while the U13 event has been scrapped in favour of training camps.

The U17 tournament takes part in the NCU area this year, starting July 2nd.
