Former Railway Union all-rounder Rachit Gaur has signed for Strabane, beating off interest from both St Johnston and Ardmore.

The Indian born cricketer came to Dublin to study, and has landed a new job in Letterkenny, and could be just the man that Tommy Barr's side needed.

He goes straight into the squad for the long trip south to Cork County in the Irish Senior Cup but no doubt his new club will be looking ahead to things on the domestic front with a little more optimism as well.

After a difficult winter for the Red Caps there has been better news of late- first with the return of Ryan Gallagher and now with the addition of the more than useful Rachit Gaur.

He is highly rated by former Irish internationals Kevin O'Brien and Kenny Carroll who played with him at Park Avenue.

"He is a very decent opening bowler, middle order batsman, and excellent fielder who has a safe pair of hands" was their verdict.

Strabane could well be one of the few North West clubs who progress to the next round, and Gaur's addition could be a key factor in that.
